Margy, we've found that even when the feeders have gone dry in our absence, the hummingbirds find their sustenance elsewhere. Then they return when we fill the feeders up again. I don't think they establish themselves in an area unless there is natural food available (I'm no expert, but that's what I understand).

I love hummingbirds. I'd love to have a feeder, but I'm afraid they will become dependent on it and we might be gone too long to keep it full. - Margy
