A Daylily's Intimate Details

It was a very rainy night and morning (again, seems like it's been a soggy summer for many of us) though the sun has managed to share the sky with the clouds as the day has progressed.  In fact, it's only 75 degrees in the sun right now, how's that for summer?  I'm liking it!

As I looked out into the yard through the rain this morning, my bright Daylily's provided little dabs of refreshing beauty throughout the yard.  I decided to photograph the intimate details of one of the Daylily's that drew my attention (that is, between the showers) to share with you today. These photos have not been modified in any way except to crop them.

Early this morning, the stamen had not yet released any pollen...

I used a small flashlight to illuminate the bloom from behind and got these shots of deep inside the throat of the bloom...

This is a different angle using the camera's flash...

I tried a different flashlight and got this when I shone it from behind, another interesting shot.

I went back out a few hours later to have another look (at this point the sun peaked through the clouds now and again)...the colors of the petals were so colorful and sparkly, no wonder they seem to illuminate the yard!
I noticed the tiny point on the edge of the petals (I'm not sure I've noticed that before).

The pollen had been released and I used a flashlight again to help with the lighting (I couldn't narrow down a favorite of these to share with you, so you get a few different angles)...do you have a favorite?

This photo shows the blue tint at the end of the stamen because I used the flashlight again, they look like they are iridescent!

I'll close with this full bloom that I took early in the morning.  I like how the background in this shot is darkened, really making the Daylily shine!

I hope you've enjoyed these photos, I enjoyed taking and sharing them with you!  Do you have Daylily's in your yard?

Thanks for reading my blog, you are the best f/f/r/s/f's, see you tomorrow,
Lise

GREAT macros! I love the coral color of the flower. The flashlight added an interesting element to the shots. Really well done!
