This has been a day of building, all day, and though I will not say sunrise to sunset, it sure felt like it! A good 9 full hours of Mountain Man, Ronnie (our hired expert, and that he is) and me. We learned a lot today. The primary thing was that the reason builders have many experts working together on a job is they all know what they are doing and are able to catch small omissions and say "hey, we forgot this..." As you may surmise by now, we left off a pretty crucial step which is to run a line of string from one end post to the other to ensure you line things up properly. We ended up having to redo some post and girder work because we forgot that small detail. No worries, we still got a lot done.
The beginning early this morning...
...our ending point late today...
Starting to look like a deck, isn't it? Definitely making progress! We still have at least one good day's work with Ronnie, in addition to all the "finishing" steps we can do on our own, both prior to his return and after he is done with his portion of the project. So far, so good. No more serious boo boos.
I'd like to share that I really don't like the act of hammering, it's tough on the arm and wrist, but I sure do like watching that nail sink into the wood with each whack! Something about it that feels like "accomplishment happening". And the sound of each whack, and the final blow of the hammer hitting the head of the nail into the wood that is absolutely, wonderfully satisfying! Way better than painting, I don't get that same feeling with painting, even though you can see your progress (maybe it's the smell), I much prefer to hammer!
All is good today, thanks for your positive feedback and thoughts...closer to 52 today:)
Thanks for reading my blog, you are the best f/f/r/s/f's, see you tomorrow,
Lise
The deck is looking good...it will be large enough for all the folks from Pumpkin Town to come together for some "moonshine"! Congratulations to you and Mountain Man for your vision, dedication and hard work. Hugs!
